Hollywood

A casualty of the culture war

Movies that motivate and inspire are in short supply these days. The reasons many of us were drawn to cinema was because of stories filled with hero’s. Most scripts are modeled after the hero’s journey. Good versus evil. The good guy besting the bad guy. Hope was part of the resolve.

Hollywood has created a culture that has distorted the view of faith and conservatism. There is poor representation and they have taught younger generations to have little to no respect for the church or believers.

They focus mostly on propaganda and indoctrination. It has gotten so bad that it shows in the quality of the work. The art of film making has been forgotten in Hollywood and the world as a whole. The craft is on a downward spiral and it shows.

Throughout history, there have been many talented artist that were believers. Michelangelo, Da Vinci and Van Gogh. Their art told stories about life, it’s struggles and the search for redemption.

The glory of God would show through amazing art & architecture. Stories of faith were sculpted on the walls and have lasted the test of time. So much so that we are able to appreciate their labor till this day.

Art is not what it used to be. It doesn’t carry the same weight or have the same quality. It’s the same for faith based media, but It’s getting better.

The digital renaissance is here and reshaping the culture. We need to sharpen our skills and talents and become the tool God can use to improve our society. We need to be relevant and make great content for the glory of God. It’s a tall order. I believe it’s what’s expected of us at Action Studios and we’re here to SERVE.

MEDIA

Films for Christ

David or Goliath size productions require work with purpose.

A common saying in the film industry is, “It’s gonna be great.” It’s a blanket statement said with humor mixed with sarcasm because it’s a bittersweet experience. A scheduled project has a deadline but there’s not enough time, money, or man power. It’s going to be a long, arduous path and we hope the end result will be a success.

So, we put on a smile, work our hands off and watch the titanic sink. For the most part, everyone gets along because we have a common goal, getting the film done. Everyone pushes and labors for weeks until we hear the sweet words, “picture wrap!”

There is something to admire about this. The level of dedication to a secular project is truly amazing. Pushing their skills to the edge for the sake of cinema. Art for arts sake. Giving your best is a challenge we should all accept. Especially when it’s for God.

Whatever role we play in church, the quality matters. Laboring for His glory is an honor and a privilege. Let’s give our best and take pride in our work. “By their fruits, you will know them.”

DRAMA

The Show Must Go On

Drama groups can achieve so much for the kingdom. This CONCLAVE community workshop helps navigate the vision.

So much work goes into church drama groups. The prep and performances. On stage and/or behind the curtain. Directing, acting, rehearsing, playwriting, composing music, lighting, art direction, make up, costumes, props. It’s becoming a lost art. Unless you’re on broadway, stage plays, skits, or any type of live dramatic performances are going by the way side.

Theater is important and making a play into a film does not translate. There are so many different variables to consider. A bigger crew, more equipment and logistics.

Drama performances need to be seen live and in person. Many believers have felt the need or desire to serve in these types of ministries. Their call is legitimate and they have a purpose to fulfill the live visual representation of faith.

MOVIE NIGHT

LEARN & DISCERN

Watching movies with a divine perspective.

In this community workshop we break down media into moments of sharing faith and scripture.

Navigating todays media is tricky. To be relevant is to know the culture and engage in what folks are talking about. We need to create a church culture that learns how to extract truth from media to share our faith. We are the bible most people read. The recent rise in faith based media opens doors for us, however, there’s a difference between sustenance and supplements. Let’s learn and discern the difference.

Declaration of Faith

Thank you God for loving me and sending Jesus to live a sinless life and to die on the cross for my sins. I recognize I am a sinner and that the wages of sin are death. I accept you now into my heart as Lord and Savior. I invite you into my life to walk with me daily. Teach, exhort and seal me with the Holy Spirit for the day of redemption. In Jesus name, Amen!

Welcome to the family of God!
